I’ve been toying with the idea of starting a blog for a while now. I couldn’t decide if it would be worth it. Is it worth starting something that will take up more of my time? Will anyone even read it? Honestly, I have no clue on either front. But today I realized that it was something I wanted to do.
About three years ago, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career as a comic book artist. However, I had never had art training of any kind. I had not been consistently drawing. And honestly, I wasn’t even reading comics that often.
But all of that shifted all of a sudden. My wife (then my girlfriend) really saw that I had a talent and with a little nurturing, it could become something special. That was the first time that I had really heard that. And I can honestly say that it changed the course of my life.
Fast forward to today and I am consistently drawing. I am taking online classes to continue to get better at my craft (www.svslearn.com). I am reading comics constantly. And I am, for the first time, actually working on my own short comic.
What does this have to do with me blogging? Well, a couple things. First, I realized that I like the idea of being able to share my journey with others. So far, that’s what social media has been for me. But you can only say so much through those platforms. A blog really allows me to share in depth.
Secondly, this is a way for me to chronicle my progress and process. I realized that the last three years have flown by and there’s a lot in there that I simply will not remember. I want this blog to be something I can come back to years from now to see where I was on my path to becoming a comic book creator.
So, this is me introducing myself to you. I’m not sure how many people will actually read this, but if you did, I am truly grateful. Hopefully I can pass on some nuggets of art related wisdom as this continues!
